Except there's a big obnoxious HUG ME sign on his back and he hasn't noticed.

[ stepping back to her previous position, yukari clears her throat. ]

You're gonna need to bend down.

[Obediently, he bends down a bit.]

Low enough?

[ she wouldn't ask him to bend down if it weren't for the fact that he was just that much taller than her—almost a foot, at least. so when he bends down, she pushes herself up onto her tiptoes, kissing his cheek gently and drawing him into a warm hug. as she buries her face against his neck, her grip gets tighter (there's a squeezing in her chest that she's trying to ignore), fingers twisting up into his leather jacket. ]

Travis had been expecting a quick hug and a "shut up Travis, it's nothing"--but this. He never gets this kind of contact, and it's... it's odd, recognizing that. Something does a little flip in his gut when he feels Yukari's arms around him, her head fitting in the crook of his neck like it belongs there.

He exhales, and wraps his arms around her, too, pulling her close. For once, he's not blurting out something stupid. The silence is much more pleasant than anything he could add, anyway.

Travis has nothing to say.]

[ were this any other time, yukari would've made some crack about this being one of the only times that travis was tolerable, seeing as how he's not opening his mouth and saying something stupid. but this is an important moment, so to speak, and yukari's hold tightens just a bit more as his arms wrap around her. she stumbles—just a step—but she comes to a halt against his chest and that's just fine with her. ]

I thought that... maybe... [ her voice is muffled a little, seeing as her face is still nestled in the crook of his neck. ] ...you needed this. You're a good person, Travis. Sometimes—I feel like you need someone to remind you.

[Travis does his best to steady her as she stands and listens carefully

Him, a good person. He doesn't know whether to laugh or cry at that; after all, he's spent a good portion of his life, just... screwing it all up, tripping over his feet. He's got too much blood on his hands, even now that he's actually trying to stop fucking up all the time.

He almost asks her "why", or "do you really think so", but he doesn't know if he wants to hear those answers. Maybe he's supposed to figure that much out on his own.

It feels good to hear her say it, though. He buries his face in her hair.]

[ people fuck up all the time. everyone, at least once in their life, does something unforgivable—what matters is what they do after that. and knowing his story as she does, there are some things she knows are out of his control. the manipulative juggernaut of a plot named sylvia christel is only the tip of the touchdown iceberg, and no one can blame him for being screwed up after what happened with his sister.

and let's face it: yukari's screwed up in her life, too. perhaps not on a scale as large as his, but she's shouldered just as much guilt and hurt in her young life, not the least of which is letting her best friend die almost completely alone. she should've been there; everyone should have. since then, yukari has turned her life around for the better, and she believes that travis can do the same as well. it'll take time and a lot of work, but...

she won't give up on him. ]
